NY/NJ/CT 2010 Pillayar Nonbu Celebration
On Dec 18, 2010 NY/NJ/CT Nagarathars celebrated Pillayar Nonbu in Sri Venkateswara temple in Bridgewater, NJ. The nagarathars started to arrive at the hall around 3:30 PM to the temple hall. There was a lot of excitement and activity at the front desk with volunteers signing up for the 2011 retreat and fund raising by the Marriage & Education committees.
The function started with Kids Bhajan Songs. Then the elai was distributed by the elders in the community with the Nagarathars taking the "Elai" according to their token number sequence. After the "Elai" distribution was completed the kids were sent to the adjacent hall for fun activities such as face painting/Sand art/Clay Modeling and tattoos and dinner. The young adult volunteers did a excellent job taking care of the kids. In the main hall, Laks Meyappan the chair of retreat committee provided information about the 2011 National retreat and introduced the retreat committee leads to the tristate community. It was followed by a excellent retreat video welcoming nagarathars from around the country and the world to attend the retreat in Trenton War Memorial, NJ. After the well received retreat presentation, Alagappan Annamalai and Elango Chidambaram conducted the Yelam in a professional manner. The nagarathars actively participated with friendly bantering during the yelam. A total amount of $8162 was collected which would be distributed evenly between the regional sangam and NSNA.
After Yelam, the marriage and education committee recognized the donors for their respective committees. Yelam was followed by dinner for adults in the adjacent hall. All nagarathars enjoyed the delicious food prepared by the Achi's. Finally, Ram Nagappan from the NSNA executive committee thanked the Pillayar Nonbu organizers

and presented a gift from the regional secretary to them. 88 families and bachelors attended the function. A total of around 270 elai's were taken. The following nagarthars organized the Pillayar Nonbu.
