Deepavali Celebrations 2010

New England Nagarathars had their Deepavali celebration on November 20, 2010 at the Polish National Home in South Grafton, Massachusetts.  It was a fun filled night that attracted over 130 people.  Excitement and expectation was in the air as the cultural program agenda was not published in advance.

Malar and Solai did a fantastic job as MC coordinating one of the best Deepavali cultural programs in NENA history.   All programs were exemplary.  The celebration started with Kadavul vazhthu written by Solai and sung by Raajan.  This was followed by little kid programs such as Katcheri and singam dance.  Boston robots danced mesmerizingly to the song “Zoom Zoom Roboda”.  Kudos to Sarvanan(Sujatha) for accomplishing the enormous feat of training the 3 and 4 yr olds to perfection.

Next, the much deserving but often forgotten past regional representatives were appreciated.  A series of variety entertainment followed.  “Peethapovathu yaru”, an innovative creation by Hema Kannan who came as owner of “Peethambari” stores involved an interview with a builder “Veedu Katti Veerachami”, Doctor “Araichialar Marandarasi”, Car Dealer “Anaconda Amavaasai”, “RA puram Annamakka” and chef “Karandiyur Kulambarasan”.  The Kutty boys danced to Bhangra music, choreographed by Viji.  A game show was organized by Visa Meyappan that involved newly married couples.  The much awaited girls and boys dance choreographed by classical dancer Thenu Raajan was a big hit.  The kids danced to catchy tunes for three different style songs.  “Isaiyum paadalum” by the older boys was a great treat to everyone’s ears.  “Kathiri Raja MBBS a MIME creation by Solai kept the audience spellbound without using any words.  "Naane Indhiran, Naane Chandiran" a dance by the Solai brothers left a lasting impression on the audience.  "Lollu Paatu KathaKalakshebham” was a spectacular performance by saravedi Saravanan, lollu mannan Odayappan and gana Raajan.  The much awaited older girls dance made all the achis want to become teenagers again.  Last but not the least “Kalakkal Thambathiar aatttam”, which involved special costumes and dance movements, choreographed by classical dancer Sujatha Saravanan earned a huge applause.

Mouth watering tasty dinner cooked by none other than our very own catering specialists was served to the patient audience.  Concluding remarks and thank you by the regional representative brought the program to a close.  After cleanup, dancing floor was opened to all until midnight. Lavanya and Subbu hosted tea at their place after midnight, so everyone could cherish the celebration a little longer.  Every one pitched in and made the event a truly memorable one for years to come. New England nagarathaars proved once again that there is no shortage of talent in the region.  NENA is eagerly looking forward to showcase its talent in the upcoming retreat 2011 in NJ.
