Pillayar Nonbu - 2010

Pillayar Nonbu was celebrated in the San Francisco Bay Area on Saturday, December 11, 2010. The function was held at the Hindu Cultural Center in the Shiva Vishnu Temple in Livermore, CA. The function started at 2 PM. Around 550 ezhais were given out by 6 elders. There was an hour long cultural program where kids performed dance events, sang songs and played musical instruments. Traditional pillayar nonbu food was served. The food was made at home by the local families. Yelam was conducted after the dinner. Around $9000 was collected this year.

Pillaiyar Nonbu 2009

Pillaiyar Nonbu was celebrated by Bay Area Nagarathars in a grand
manner as per our tradition. On Dec 25th 2009 about 150 families got
together in the Livermore Temple Hall, CA. The function kicked off at 2:30
PM with registration. Chettiars started off with preparing Ellai
followed by culturals and bajan by kids and elders. Ellai was
distributed by 7 elders and a total of 525 Ellai's were taken.

California North - Kaavadi Poosai and Thai Poosam

In keeping with the Nagarathar tradition, a Kaavadi Poosai was performed on Saturday January 23,2010 in the Concord Shiva Murugan Temple, thanks to the initiative of Solai Alagappan. Our chettiars prepared 12 Kaavadis decorated with Peacock feathers and silk cloth. Once the Kavadis were ready, they were arranged in front of the Vinayagar sannidhi. Then followed Bajanai songs which lasted for more than an hour and was enthusiastically participated in by the large turnout of more than 120 people. This was followed by Aarthi and prasadam.
