NANAL is an acronym for the North American Nagarathar Association Letter. As the name implies, it started out as just a newsletter broadcasting the news of events happening in the Nagarathar Community residing in North America, especially in US and Canada.
Nanal has evolved from a newsletter to being a fledgling magazine. In addition to the Regional News from various regional secretaries, there are several articles and poems in Tamil and English, including some from our talented kids. We are happy to note the wider participation from youth. Most of the articles are in English for the benefit of youth to understand the traditions, nature and heritage of the community. This magazine also serves to showcase the talents of the members of the community.
The focus of this magazine is to be a conduit between the Nagarathar Sangam of North America (NSNA) and the Nagarathar Community. The activities of the NSNA committees such as Education, Marriage as well as Health and Humanitarian are regularly published. To support NSNA’s various activities on giving back to our community, we publish the developments and progress on each front along with information, application forms and instructions on available sponsorships and scholarships.
Our vision is to constantly strive to achieve excellence in NANAL. The key to our vision is your active participation. Let us not forget that the magazine is only as good as the articles that make up the life of the magazine.

The past NANAL teams have put in lot of time and effort to mould NANAL to the current form, we in TEXAS are also working towards achieving the goal of making the magazine more informative, useful to the community as a whole and interesting to the reader.
For the year 2008-2009 for administering NANAL, there is an editorial board of 9 members consisting of dedicated, active, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, talented and diverse members. The current board’s mission is to publish eight NANAL magazines published every quarter; the first issue will be published in June 2008.
As is with any growing community, the perspective and demographics keep changing. Our goal is to keep pace with the changes and reach the community as a whole, especially, the future torch bearers of the community, our youth. Apart from the articles on our heritage, culture and regional news, we will be publishing articles, interviews and snippets on health, finance, travel, leisure and, of course, Achi’s corner. As part of our effort, we wish to find and publish about the hidden gems and inspirational individuals amongst us.
The key to our success is communication. Success of NSNA cannot be accomplished without Regional involvement and support. We want to increase our communication with Regional Secretaries and we will be in constant touch with them regarding our intentions and decisions. With their help, we can also enhance our membership database and optimize NANAL distribution.
